biography

Max was created by Project Manticore as an experiment to create the ultimate soldier. Her group was referred to as the X5s. She endured a brutal military childhood, learning how to operate weapons and fight with hand-to-hand combat, as well as going through numerous endurance tests, all before the age of nine. At the age of nine, she and most of her unit escaped, twelve of them, including Max, making it out.

After escaping Manticore, she stayed for a few months with the Barrett's, a foster family. Unfortunately, the foster family was not much better than Manticore, with an alcoholic foster father who would beat Max and her foster sister, Lucy, as well as sexually abusing Lucy. After the Pulse, an electromagnetic pulse that fried all the electronics in North America, Max decided global chaos was a good excuse as any to bail on a bad situation and left. She's always felt guilty about leaving Lucy behind.

She currently lives in Seattle and works as a bike messenger for Jam Pony by day and as a cat burgalar by night, using her enhanced abilities to her advantage.

One night she broke into the apartment of Logan Cale, the man behind Eyes Only, a cable hack that lets people know what kind of corrupt activities are going on in the city. Logan was able to figure out who and what she was and offered Max a chance to help him in exchange for helping her find the other Manticore escapees. She refused at first, wanting to remain under the radar, but after one of her friends died because he wasn't getting the medicine he needed because the men Logan wanted her to help bring down were selling it on the black market and replacing the real medicine with placebos, and after a shooting that left Logan in a wheelchair, she helped bring down the people responsible and get back the daughter of an Eyes Only witness. Eventually she agreed to keep helping Logan with his mission, after Logan was able to give her some information on Zack, her older brother.

This is an AU version of Max from the first season of Dark Angel. Most events from the first season have happened, but in different ways than they were portrayed on the show.

It should probably be mentioned that I do not count the Dark Angel books (Before The Dawn, Skin Game, and After The Dark) as part of Max's canon.
